The Value of Industry Credentials — In NCDPI's Words

"The attainment of an industry-recognized certification or credential ensures that students graduate from high school globally competitive for work and postsecondary education."

— NC Department of Public Instruction, Student Technology Certifications

According to NCDPI, credentials help students validate their knowledge with an industry-recognized certification, stand out in a field of job applicants and start at a higher salary level, and save employers many hours of training time by signaling proven skills. Proof of Learning (POL): Each NC CTE course has an aligned POL — Tosa certifications serve as the credential-type POL for their aligned courses.

Accountability Mechanism and Reporting

How Credentials Count

Credential attainment is tracked through the NCCTE Admin application using data from NCSIS. Results are uploaded from credentialing agencies or entered by PSU staff, then validated by the CTE administrator.

Attainment rates feed into college and career readiness metrics in the NC School Report Card.
