WordPress provides a comprehensive environment for website creation and content management in educational and professional settings. Widely used to build and manage websites, blogs, and online content, WordPress supports publishing workflows, site customization, and the organization of digital content through themes and plugins. A WordPress certification allows students and job seekers to demonstrate their ability to create, manage, and maintain websites effectively and supports their academic success and long-term career readiness.
A WordPress certification measures practical skills in using the WordPress environment with no prerequisites. It is well suited for students and adult learners who want to validate their ability to create and manage websites, organize and publish digital content, customize site appearance and functionality, and maintain websites effectively using a content management system.
The Tosa WordPress certification exam evaluates four key domains:
The questions in this domain focus on the configuration of WordPress. Candidates are tested on user administration and moderation, installation, configuration, backup and security of the CMS, as well as bug resolution.
Skills from this domain gather questions on WordPress content and SEO. Candidates are tested on their ability to create, modify and set up pages, posts and media, on their tree structure management as well as on their knowledge of SEO best practices.
Candidates are tested on the graphical aspect of WordPress. They are also tested on their mastery of the use of WordPress themes and graphic customization as well as on their knowledge of child themes.
This domain includes skills on WordPress features. Candidates are tested on their knowledge of the main WordPress extensions (WooCommerce, builders, forms, SEO...) and widgets as well as on their mastery of the implementation of an extension.
The Tosa certification for WordPress lasts one hour and uses a 35-question adaptive exam drawn from a pool of more than 180 items, including multiple-choice, interactive, and live in-application tasks. The test evaluates a candidate’s skills and knowledge in the four domains presented above and selects questions from five difficulty levels depending on the abilities of the test taker.
Tosa certification exams are not open book. The certification tests must be taken in a secure environment and are proctored at all times in accordance with the Tosa Exam Policy. Adaptive testing produces a unique sequence of items for each candidate, reducing the risk of cheating and item memorization. In-person and remote proctoring options are available.
The certification is valid for 3 years. Earners may retest anytime to improve their score or to maintain their certification. There is a minimum 24-hour waiting period between two retakes. Candidates receive a new version of the test with each attempt.
The result of the exam is a numeric score between 1 and 1000 points associated to a proficiency level. It is calculated using a pattern-scoring model (IRT). The minimum score required to earn the certification is 551. Certification earners receive a Tosa certification diploma that indicates the test date, the score, and the proficiency level achieved. It contains a unique authentication code for online verification. Earners with a score of 551 and above are also eligible to receive a Credly digital badge.
